Metric Analysis: Vernon Gholston was an extremely athletic, and Pro Bowl level production prospect. But for some reason, it didn’t click. He was not a generational talent as many claimed him to be coming out. However, Gholston provides a nice place to find clues to improve evaluation. Whether that be character traits or finding some red flags to see the patterns that create a draft bust.

Finding successful NFL players isn’t just about hitting one variable, but finding the combination of variables to increase your chance of hitting. And where failure in Gholston shows the limits of data. It can also raise questions and spark discussions on what factors need to be added for future evaluation. Success is in the details and I’m certain there is something in the details that can improve evaluation in the future.
