2017 NFL Mock Draft: Midseason

It seems silly to say after 1,080+ film grade this season that I still don’t feel comfortable doing a mock draft, but alas I still have more prospects to watch. However, that doesn’t mean I can’t put out my early thoughts on how I believe the first-round of the 2017 NFL draft should play out.

But be forewarned that this isn’t a prediction mock. I’m not in the business of predicting where players will be drafted.

I’m in the business of what these players will actually be in the NFL. And I tend to lean combining talent with need when it comes to mocks.

So let’s get to the selections.

Cleveland Browns Select: Mitch Trubisky, QB, North Carolina

The Browns need a quarterback. Trubisky is the most naturally gifted pocket passer in the class.

San Francisco 49ers Select: Myles Garrett, DE, Texas A&M

There are a lot of needs on this 49ers team. But the best pass rusher in the 2017 class is a good start in filling those needs.

Jacksonville Jaguars Select: Jabrill Peppers, LB/DS, Michigan

Peppers might be able to teach how to tackle guys in space and be instinctive to Jack.

Chicago Bears Select: Malik Hooker, DS, Ohio State

The biggest problems are on defense. And Hooker is a special talent.

New York Jets Select: Luke Falk, QB, Washington State

One of the most consistent and accurate quarterbacks in this class.

Tennessee Titans Select: Jonathan Allen, DT, Alabama

Oh sweet baby Jesus…

Carolina Panthers Select: Erik Magnuson, OT, Michigan

Cam will enjoy a little more protection.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Select: Dalvin Cook, RB, Florida State

Jameis Winston: Reunited and it feels so good.

Cincinnati Bengals Select: Pat Elflein, OC/OG

Bodine will get some competition…just kidding Elflein will run away with the spot in minicamps.

Tennessee Titans “Again” Select: Adoree Jackson, CB, USC

Secondary help is a must for the Titans.

Indianapolis Colts Select: Soloman Thomas, DE/DT, Stanford

Colts can enjoy some much needed defensive line impact.

Buffalo Bills Select: Jamal Adams, DS, LSU

Safety is always a crucial part of a Rex Ryan defense.

San Diego Chargers Select: Brian O’Neill, OT/OG, Pittsburgh

Offensive line help and versatility is a need for the Chargers going forward.

Baltimore Ravens Select: Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU

The RB carousel is finally over.

Miami Dolphins Select:  Brian Allen, OG, Michigan State

He’s bigger and better than his brother from last year.

Cleveland Browns “Again” Select: Nate Gerry, DS, Nebraska

Gerry is savage as !@#$

New Orleans Saints Select: Marlon Humphrey, CB, Alabama

Saints caught them a Marlon here.

Green Bay Packers Select: Corn Elder, CB Miami

Yes his name is real and he’s spectacular.

Pittsburgh Steelers Select: Quentin Nelson, OG, Notre Dame

I don’t know if he can do a Half Nelson or Full Nelson, but the Steelers will find out.

Detroit Lions Select: Christian McCaffrey, RB, Stanford

Seems the Lions are having a bit of trouble penciling down their RB position.

Washington Redskins Select: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

You like that?

Philadelphia Eagles Select: John Ross, WR, Washington

Has a injury history, but tape shows a dynamic deep threat.

New York Giants Select: Jaleel Johnson, DT, Iowa

High octane penetrator with a flair for the big play.

Houston Texans Select: DeShone Kizer, QB, Notre Dame

Perfect landing spot for Kizer to develop.

Denver Broncos Select: Ryan Ramcyzk, OT, Wisconsin

Offensive line help is coming with one of the more underrated tackles in this class.

Atlanta Falcons Select: Sidney Jones, CB, Washington

Falcons have had some success taking Washington corners late.

Seattle Seahawks Select: Courtland Sutton, WR, SMU

Taking a break from the small quick types might be beneficial to their passing offense long-term.

Kansas City Chiefs Select: Dede Westbrook, WR, Oklahoma

He’s exactly the type of WR Andy Reid covets.

Oakland Raiders Select: Derek Barnett, DE, Tennessee

There is a bit of a McKenzie connection here with Reggie’s son playing with Barnett.

Dallas Cowboys Select: Takkarist McKinley, DE, UCLA

A bit of immaturity and rawness may drop him here, but the Cowboys take chances on pass rushers like him often.

New England Patriots Select: Obi Meifonwu, DS, Connecticut

Perfect addition to the Patriots’ system.
